General information about membership can be found on this page. If you want to become a member, or are interested in becoming a member, please fill out the appropriate membership form below (Student, Staff or General).
If you have any questions about membership that aren’t covered below, please email our secretary at secretary@nubc.info.
Social membership is $60 for the year. This allows use of boat club equipment, and covers insurance. New South Wales Rowing Association (NSWRA) membership is not required. If you wish to compete at regattas, an upgrade to competitive membership is required.
Competitive membership is $170 for the year payable before the end of first semester. This allows members to compete at various regattas throughout the year. The competitive membership fee includes the NSWRA registration fee. NUBC will cover the Central Districts Rowing Association (CDRA) affiliation fee.
If you are not a current student of the university there is an additional fee for Nusport affiliation, which varies depending whether you are an ex-student or not. Please see the secretary or the treasurer to organise payment of this fee.
About Membership Fees:
The money you pay in membership fees all goes towards maintaining and purchasing equipment and paying for the ongoing expenses of the club, like putting petrol in the speed boat. Being a sport that involves the use of expensive boats, a large amount of our money goes towards keeping our fleet of boats in working order. The difference between social and competitive membership: competitive members compete in regattas and in particular, the annual University Championships. It represents an extra level of commitment, and therefore a significant increase in the use of boats and equipment. In the past, the club was heavily subsidised by NUsport, however due to the introduction of VSU, we have faced significant funding cuts, and are now required to be more or less self reliant.
Other costs to consider include:
We are required to compete in uniform. If you plan to complete with us you will have to buy a ‘zootie’ to race in (about $60). Training shirts, club shirts and club jumpers will also be available.
The drive to Berry Park is about 20 minutes so the cost of petrol is a consideration. We try to carpool from Edwards Hall carpark to reduce this burden, and as a courtesy we encourage people to repay their driver $2-5 for the trip.
At the local level, races cost $5 per seat.
